let's talk trauma

Some thoughts around trauma for your Saturday morning ☕️:

Trauma is such a strange beast- everyone’s experience of trauma is unique and each person copes with trauma differently. Two people could go through the same event and have completely different experiences and reactions to the what happened.

The new definition of trauma is when your internal resources (your mental health, coping skills, exercise, belief system, mindfulness, etc) and external resources (stable environment, financial factors, supportive people in your life, a therapist, etc) are inadequate to cope with a situation.

Some people’s threshold for trauma could be much lower than others due to these internal or external factors.

You never know what others are going through and it’s ok to have a different experience of trauma than others! 🌊 You are coping the way you need to, no judgements necessary!

comparing ourselves to others

Wise words from Karamo Brown 👑. As much as it can feel like it, life is not a contest.

It’s not about how well you’re doing compared to others- the only person you should compare yourself to today is who you were yesterday!

We shouldn’t be asking ourselves why others appear to be more successful 💰 , healthier, skinnier, prettier, smarter, tougher 💪, or more well liked...

We should be asking ourselves is am I working as hard as I can to be the best person I can be today.

Everyone struggles with making comparisons of themselves to others - it’s part of the way the brain sorts information! But be compassionate to yourself and know you’re not alone. 💕

meet my therapy dog, feist!

Let me introduce you to my dog, Feist! 🐶

You might see Feist occasionally during our sessions together and you are welcome to request her for animal assisted therapy! She is a total cuddle bug and does great with kids too.

Animals are great partners for people with mental health challenges, I know my dog and cats help me immensely when I’m feeling overwhelmed. 💕

Do you have a pet that helps you with your mental health challenges?! Send me photos 😍📥
