It’s Okay to Come Back to Therapy (Even If It’s Been Awhile)

Maybe you ghosted your therapist. Maybe you missed a few sessions and never rescheduled. Maybe life just got busy. Whatever your story is—you’re not alone. Many people pause therapy and feel unsure how to return. At Sprout Therapy PDX, we want you to know: it’s okay to come back. No shame. No judgment. Just support.

Life Happens. Therapy Can Be Flexible. Therapy isn’t supposed to be one more thing you feel guilty about. Breaks happen because:

  • Schedules shift

  • Finances change

  • Motivation drops

  • You felt okay...until you didn’t

There’s no expiration date on your spot. You can return when you’re ready.

You Don’t Have to Start Over Even if it’s been weeks, months, or years—you’re not starting from scratch. You’ve grown, shifted, and survived. When you come back to therapy:

  • Your previous work still matters

  • Your therapist will meet you where you are

  • You don’t need to explain or apologize

Not Sure What to Talk About? That’s Okay Too. You don’t need a “big reason” to return. Maybe you just want space to:

  • Reflect on how you’ve changed

  • Revisit goals with more clarity

  • Get support during a tough season

  • Sort through stuff that’s been on your mind

Therapy is here to meet you—not pressure you.
