Using Insurance to Start Therapy in the New Year

Thinking about starting therapy in 2026? You’re not alone. The beginning of the year is a great time to take care of your mental health—and your insurance benefits might make it more accessible than you think. At Sprout Therapy PDX, we’re here to help you understand how to use your coverage to get started with therapy.

Does Insurance Cover Therapy? In many cases, yes. If you have:

  • Oregon Health Plan (OHP): Most plans fully cover therapy, psychiatry, and supportive services. No copays.

  • Private Insurance (e.g. Regence, PacificSource, Moda): Coverage varies. You may have a deductible, copay, or coinsurance.

Not sure what your plan covers? We can help walk you through it—or you can call the number on the back of your card to ask about mental health benefits.

Why January Is a Good Time to Start

  • New Benefits Start: If you’ve switched plans or providers, January is when those changes go into effect.

  • Deductibles Reset: If you’ve met your deductible last year, it resets now—making this a good time to track spending or plan ahead.

  • Therapists Have More Openings: We often see more availability at the start of the year before calendars fill up.

How to Get Started at Sprout Therapy PDX We make the process easy:

  1. Attend an intake screening

  2. We’ll match you with a therapist who fits your needs and preferences

We work with clients across Oregon and offer in-person and telehealth options.

Is Therapy Only for Big Problems? Not at all. Therapy can help with:

  • Stress, burnout, or anxiety

  • Relationship challenges

  • Identity exploration

  • Neurodivergence, trauma, or transitions

You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to start. If you’re curious, that’s enough.

Your mental health matters—and your insurance might be the key to getting the support you deserve. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to get started, this is it.
