molly story

Hi there, I’m Molly! I became a therapist after first thinking I was building a career in the outdoor industry. I started working with teens on trail conservation projects in college and then meandered into a therapy career via roles as a trail builder, wilderness guide, community-based therapist and crisis responder and medical social worker. In that time I learned that I’m a highly sensitive person (HSP) and deeply value working with people who might be too. I do therapy now to provide a validating, open-minded and healing space for people seeking a better understanding of themselves.

People typically come to therapy looking for help changing something. It can feel vulnerable and scary. My aim is to create a consistent, gentle space for you to show up in your entirety so we can find what you need, together. We’ll practice balancing acceptance (of you, the world, your reality) and change (what can I solve, adjust, leave?). I’ll bring radical genuineness and, at times, a healthy dose of irreverence to help you learn and practice new skills as you work towards a more hopeful and satisfying life.

Now for the professional stuff:

I draw from complementary therapeutic theories and interventions in my practice. These include a biosocial theory lens (from DBT) and DBT skills helping with distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation and relationship effectiveness. My work is grounded in attachment theory, and I use interpersonal, humanistic and existential approaches. I am collaborative, strengths-based and person-centered though I can also offer a more dynamic or directive approach. I’m continuously learning how to build a truly anti-racist and anti-oppressive therapeutic practice.

After graduating with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from Antioch College in 2004, I earned my Masters of Social Work from Portland State University in 2011. I’m currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Oregon and Washington. My therapy career began with teens but I’ve loved the transition to working with young adults, college students and adults as well.

In my free time I spend time with loved ones, say “hi” to every dog I see, listen to podcasts, and almost always have a puzzle in progress.
