olivia’s story
Hello there! I’m Olivia (she/her).
I am a therapist with a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature and art, shaped by my upbringing in northern Wisconsin. As a child, I found solace in the beauty of the outdoors, and found empowerment and joy through creative expression in art. A couple of years ago, I moved here to Oregon and immediately fell in love with its beauty and wonderful artistic community.
In my free time, I enjoy a balance of indoor activities and outdoor adventuring. When outdoors, I enjoy exploring with my family, friends, and my dog, Smudge, often going hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, paddle boarding, or water skiing. I also spend a lot of my free time playing tennis and painting. On rare occasions, I will do commissioned artwork, but I like to prioritize making artwork just for myself and my own wellbeing!
Some of my professional stuff:
I received a master’s degree in Art therapy and Counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. I pursued specializations in trauma informed treatment, depth psychology, Medical Art Therapy, and School Art Therapy. My clinical work experience has included working at an adolescent residential behavioral health facility, a hospital Oncology unit, a domestic violence and sexual assault shelter, and an outpatient clinic facilitating therapy with adolescents and adults. I have received and attended training with other evidenced based therapies, including Cognitive Processing Therapy, an evidence based treatment for PTSD.
In my practice, I embrace an integrative and eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from various evidence-based modalities. I mainly draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help understand your relationship with yourself and others, psychoanalytic techniques to explore underlying motivations, and a person-centered approach to prioritize empathy and connection. I believe that each individual is unique, and that being flexible and tailoring therapeutic interventions to each client’s specific needs is essential for growth and self-discovery. While it is absolutely not required in your own therapy process, I have found that incorporating creative means and art therapy can be a powerful way to express emotions that words sometimes can’t, and I’m here to support my clients as they gain insight and explore their experiences and feelings. With empathy and understanding, I like to encourage collaboration so I can best provide a safe and supportive environment for each client. I hope to give everyone the opportunity to be curious and explore their inner landscapes by harnessing their own innate creativity and strengths.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oregon.
