Oregon Health Plan (OHP) Therapy in Portland, Oregon
Sprout Therapy PDX accepts Oregon Health Plan (OHP/Medicaid) as a core part of how we deliver care. Not as a charity model, not as a side option — as our central accessibility pathway. If you have OHP coverage, you can become a client through the same process and receive the same quality of care as anyone paying out of pocket or using private insurance.
We're a queer-founded, COA-licensed outpatient behavioral health practice serving Oregonians across both of our Portland offices and via statewide telehealth.
What This Means at Sprout:
OHP clients get the same care, not "second-tier" care.
-
Same intake process.
OHP clients book screenings, get matched with clinicians, and start care on the same timeline as anyone else.
-
Same level of access.
A lot of mental health practices that "take OHP" have a separate (slower, less-staffed, harder-to-access) track for OHP clients vs. private-pay. We don't operate that way.
-
Same services.
Therapy, medication management, case management, peer support, and team-based coordinated care are all available to OHP clients.
OHP Plans We’re in Network With
If you're not sure which CCO covers you, check the front of your OHP member ID card.
We're in-network with most major OHP / Medicaid Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) across Oregon:
CareOregon (HealthShare Oregon)
Columbia Pacific CCO
Eastern Oregon CCO (EOCCO) / GOBHI
Intercommunity Health Network (IHN) / Samaritan
Jackson Care Connect
Open Card (Fee-for-Service Medicaid)
PacificSource Community Solutions
Trillium Community Health Plan
Umpqua Health Network CCO
Yamhill CCO
Available Services for OHP Members
-
One-on-one work for adults, teens, and children, in person or via telehealth, fully covered by your OHP CCO; no surprise bills, no copays.
-
Insurance billing for couples therapy is more nuanced (medical necessity rules apply); we'll walk through what's possible during your screening. We work with all relationship structures.
-
Including chosen family. Oregon law defines "family" broadly for insurance purposes — parents, siblings, partners, caregivers, etc.
-
When clinically appropriate and available.
-
Provided by our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs), covered under all OHP plans.
-
For OHP clients, case management is especially valuable for folks navigating housing, social services, and CCO benefit complexities.
-
Lived-experience-based support from state-certified Peer Support Specialists, often available as part of coordinated team-based care for OHP clients.
-
For OHP clients with complex needs, we can coordinate between your therapist, prescriber, peer support specialist, and case manager — keeping care connected without you having to repeat your story.
Who We Work With
We work with OHP-covered clients across every population we serve generally:
Adults, teens, kids
Couples and families of any kind
LGBTQ+, queer, trans, and gender-diverse folks
BIPOC, immigrant, and refugee community members
Neurodivergent folks (ADHD, autism, sensory differences)
Polyamorous, open, and non-monogamous relationships
Foster and adoptive families
People navigating chronic illness, disability, or systemic stress
OHP coverage does not change what care we offer or how we offer it.
BECOMING A CLIENT
The process is straightforward:
Book a free phone screening with our Intake Coordinator: Book your screening
Complete a short questionnaire
Brief screening conversation (~20 min) to talk about what brings you in, your insurance, and any preferences (clinician identity, modality, format)
Get matched with a clinician whose specialties, training, and approach align with your needs
First full session — typically scheduled within 1–2 weeks of your screening
There's no cost for the screening. OHP may be billed for it depending on your plan.

Common Questions About OHP Therapy
-
No. Under Oregon Health Plan rules, you do not need a referral to start mental health services with an in-network provider. You can contact Sprout directly to begin the screening process.
-
Look at the front of your OHP member ID card — your CCO is listed there. Common CCOs in the Portland metro area include CareOregon (HealthShare), Open Card, Trillium, and PacificSource.
-
Possibly. Insurance, including OHP, only covers couples/family sessions when they are medically necessary to treat the diagnosis of one identified family member. Sessions can't be solely focused on relationship growth or communication skills as a standalone goal. We'll walk through what's possible during your screening.
-
We cannot accept cash pay from OHP members. If you have OHP, we'll bill OHP. If you become ineligible for OHP, we can transition you to cash pay or private insurance.
-
We'll work with you to transition to private insurance or self-pay. We won't drop you mid-treatment because of insurance changes.
-
Yes. OHP/Medicaid clients have the same confidentiality protections as anyone else under Oregon law and HIPAA. Information shared with us is only disclosed under standard mandated reporting rules (child abuse, imminent danger, etc.).
-
Most OHP clients are scheduled within 1–2 weeks of their screening call. Wait times may be longer for specific clinicians or modalities. If a particular service or insurance plan has a 6+ month wait, that waitlist temporarily closes — we'll tell you on the screening call.
What We Don't ProvideSprout is an outpatient mental health practice. We do not offer:
24/7 crisis services or emergency response. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room.
Residential or inpatient treatment
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs)
Same-day intake or next-day appointments
Primary substance use treatment requiring detox or higher levels of care
If your situation needs a higher level of care than we can provide, our intake team will offer referrals.
Let’s get started.
If you have OHP coverage and are looking for affirming, high-quality therapy in Portland or across Oregon — the next step is a free phone screening. No commitment, no cost.
