emily’s story
Hi! I’m Emily (she/her). Finding the right therapist can be difficult. Here is some info about me that I hope will make the process easier. I originally started working with children in inpatient/outpatient care settings. I quickly found my passion in listening to a person’s story of their life and the trauma they have experienced. I believe in approaching clients with a trauma-informed lens and providing a space to explore/create their narrative. I fully believe everyone has parts of themselves that require nurturing and individuals can receive that from therapy, while also learning how to nurture those parts themselves. I enjoy working with clients to build the skills they need to navigate challenges and other daily life stressors.
While in grad school I learned I had a specific interest in individuals who have experienced complex trauma. I have a passion for helping people who have experienced sexual abuse at some point in their life. I use a narrative therapy approach to allow people with trauma to create their own story about their lives that is empowering to them.
I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and work with individuals on issues related to trauma, sexual abuse, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, and grief. I also enjoy working with low-resourced families that have been hurt by systems.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and dog Lily. I am a big animal lover and enjoy fostering dogs as well. I also love reading (specifically romantasy), sleeping, and playing Overcooked on my switch. I find a lot of joy in nature and think spring in Portland is by far the best season.
The professional stuff:
I completed my Master of Social Work degree at George Fox University. Prior to this, I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Oregon State University. I am an associate clinician working under the supervision of Brianna Yadon, LCSW.
Prior to Sprout, I was working as a mental health therapist at another group practice. I also have experience in the education and emergency department setting. Before grad school, I worked at a non-profit in inpatient/outpatient care called Albertina Kerr. Practicing at different settings has given me experience with a variety of mental health struggles.
My work is client-centered and trauma-informed, with a focus on empowering the client. My therapeutic style is humanistic and I utilize Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Based Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
I have completed Tier 1 and Tier 2 training in Collaborative Problem Solving. I am superivsed by Bri Yadon, LCSW.
