carrie’s story
Hi! I’m Carrie (She/Her). Originally from the East Coast, I’ve called Portland home for over a decade. I love the beauty of the Pacific Northwest—the lush forests, mountains, and waterways—and the sense of grounding and reflection it offers.
Reaching out for therapy is a big and courageous step toward growth and change. I believe therapy is a collaborative process. My role is to walk alongside you—offering support, validation, and a space where you feel seen and empowered. I welcome children, teens, adults, and families to join me on this journey. I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and empathetic environment where your strengths are emphasized, your story is honored, and your goals are addressed.
I offer an integrative, person-centered approach to therapy. Together, we’ll explore how your past experiences influence your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to foster deeper self-awareness and lasting growth. I will meet you where you are—helping you develop coping skills, connect with your emotions, and build confidence as you become the most authentic version of yourself. At the core of my work is a humanistic approach that emphasizes growth, self-awareness, and healing. I also integrate other evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing. Each client is unique, and I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs and goals.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our three teenagers (ages 13, 17, and 19), and our dog. I love being outdoors and take every opportunity to hike, camp, paddleboard, and cross-country ski. I also enjoy cooking, attending live music events, and dancing!
Now for the professional stuff:
I’ve worked in a wide variety of settings, including community mental health, home and community-based wraparound services, and both public and private school systems. I have experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and families experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation, academic challenges, communication issues, grief and loss, divorce and co-parenting, and trauma.
I began my college career studying Physical Therapy with a focus on sports medicine. While I enjoyed interacting with and helping others, I quickly realized that path didn’t align with my passions. I knew I wanted to work in a helping profession but felt called to explore outside the traditional medical field.
That realization led me to shift my studies to Child and Family Studies, where I found a deep interest in human development, family systems, and the social and emotional growth of children. I earned my BS in Child Development and Family Studies from Penn State University. During this time, I especially enjoyed learning about typical and atypical development, how to support children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive growth, and how to create inclusive, non-biased environments for children and families.
After graduation, I worked as a teaching assistant at a high school. There, I witnessed firsthand how students' academic and social challenges were deeply connected to their mental health. This experience solidified my decision to pursue a career in counseling. I went on to earn my MS in Higher Education/Post-Secondary Counseling from West Chester University.
Whether you’re looking for support for yourself, your child, or your family, I’m here to provide compassionate, collaborative care. I look forward to hearing your story!
I am currently supervised by Molly Dressler, LCSW.
