marie’s story
Hi there, I’m Marie!
I became a therapist because I am passionate about providing a safe space for people of all backgrounds to be heard and to express themselves in a non-judgmental environment. I believe that everyone is capable of making positive changes in their lives and I am committed to helping my clients develop sustainable coping mechanisms and tools for overcoming personal obstacles and working through life’s challenging moments.
Getting to therapy or asking for help can be hard. My aim is to create a gentle, supportive and inviting space that encourages you to show up as you are and find the right tools to support you in any healing or growth you may want to explore. The work we do together can be challenging at times, but also exciting and fun! I am prepared to meet you wherever you land.
I use a variety of therapeutic interventions while emphasizing a collaborative approach in order to determine the best plan of care for your current needs. Some interventions I draw from in my practice include: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), mindfulness techniques , solutions focused therapy and skill building. I seek to practice with a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and social justice lens.
After attending UC Santa Cruz’s undergraduate program in Intensive Psychology, I received my Master’s degree from Pacific University in Applied Psychological Sciences. My studies have held an emphasis on child development and family therapy, but I have enjoyed my transition to working with young adults and adults! I have outpatient experience working with children and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, attention difficulties, life transitions and social conflicts among other concerns.
In my spare time, I love to be with my family, explore new parts of Portland with my friends, spend days on the beach, paint, see live music and go on adventures with my dog, Ozzy! I was born in France and moved to California when I was four years old where I spent the next 20 years of my life in the Bay Area before moving to the PNW. I still speak some French, but definitely need to keep practicing! Living in Portland has been such a joy and I look forward to my continued time here in the great PNW.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oregon. I am supervised by Sam Mandel, MA, LPC.
