cj’s story

Hello! My name is CJ (she/they).  I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, went to school in Colorado and moved to Portland in the summer of 2021. I identify as a BIPOC, queer adoptee which has given me the lived experience of understanding the complexity of identity, attachment struggles and intersectionality. These experiences have provided a unique lens to how I approach therapy which is focused on mindfulness, strengths-based and person-centered modalities. I want to provide a safe space for every individual I work with by collaborating together on what safe means to you. I strive to support each person in their healing journey while getting to know you, the whole you.

Anything music, art or creative related has rooted me during difficult times. I find that I feel most grounded when I am able to portray those experiences through a tangible object/art piece. I’m always on the hunt for a new vinyl to add to my collection, going to catch a local show and spending hours curating the perfect playlist. I also enjoy oil painting, figure drawing, running and film photography. I am currently learning how to embroider and learn French; I value being a lifelong learner!

Now for the professional stuff:

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Oregon. My supervisor for consultations is Sam Mandel, LPC. I attended college in Fort Collins, CO at Colorado State University for both my Bachelor and Masters degrees. I have experience working mainly serving youth in foster care and adoption agencies, adults with disabilities, and clinical outpatient work. I’ve gained experience working with all ages but have most experience with youth, teens and young adults. I provide a space that is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and open to be collaborative and dynamic. I mainly use mindfulness, strengths-based and person-centered modalities in order to heal the body-mind connection.

In my therapeutic practice, I strive to create a space that is curated to meet the individual’s needs. I believe I can learn just as much from you as you can learn from me, as you are the expert of your own life. I see the individual as a whole person and not just the struggles they are experiencing. I communicate with empathy and compassion as I can resonate with how vulnerable it can be to begin the healing process. Together, we can work to find coping mechanisms, skills, and processing tools that will help you. I highly value your voice being heard and collaboration in my approach to each individual I work with. I encourage feedback to ensure that my approach is effective, and value the opportunity to repair any missteps to ensure that this experience is healing and meaningful for you.
