bear’s story
Hi! I'm Bear (Fae/Faer/He/Him) - I’m a QMHP. I'm originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to Portland back in 2009. It was the best decision of my life. I've met so many incredible people in the northwest and it is so lovely not to live somewhere flat and boring and be surrounded by all the beauty and milder weather that Oregon has to offer. I am queer, nonbinary, and a giant nerd that loves playing card games, board games, and tabletop role playing games. I also love camping and spending time with my cats.
Now for the professional stuff:
I'm currently a QMHP and I'm finishing a master's in counseling from Prescott College and am doing my internship at Sprout! I receive frequent supervision, consultation, and guidance from my Clinical Supervisor, Emma Crosby, in treatment planning and the therapeutic process. This means you benefit from two clinicians thinking about your care - bringing more perspectives, more support, and a truly collaborative approach to helping you meet your goals. I completed undergraduate degrees at Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a minor in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Portland State University.
While I am new to counseling, I'm not new to helping people. I am a registered nurse in Oregon and for the last 10 years I have worked in psychiatric care, hospice, HIV care, hospitals, and nursing homes. I love helping people in all stages of their lives to meet their goals and working with individuals that are trying to find what is meaningful to them in their lives. I am deeply passionate about supporting the LGBTQ+ community. I work with clients on a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships both monogamous and non-monogamous, identity, grief, death, and dying.
I use a variety of approaches including Existential, Person Centered, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques.
QMHPs are intern clinicians in the final stage of their master’s program and have completed all of their coursework. Our QMHPs receive frequent supervision, consultation, and guidance from their Clinical Supervisor in treatment planning and the therapeutic process. This means you benefit from two clinicians thinking about your care - bringing more perspectives, more support, and a truly collaborative approach to helping you meet your goals.
