monique’s story

Hello! I’m Monique (she/her).  Originally from southern Oregon, I have lived in the Portland metro area for 9 years. As a native Oregonian I have been lucky to experience the beauty that is the PNW. From Crater Lake to Multnomah Falls, Oregon has my heart. As most Oregonians I enjoy time outside: hiking, camping, spending quality time with friends, meeting new dogs, dancing in the rain, and a beautiful sunset to end the day.

I also have a passion for photography. Ever since I was little, I have loved capturing moments and memories. There is so much beauty in being able to look back on some of life’s precious moments. I have been afforded the opportunity of shooting weddings, couples, concerts, pets, and of course the PNW. One of my dreams is to incorporate photography with therapy.

I tend to use an eclectic array of therapeutic approaches as each person is different. As a therapist I believe that clients are the experts of their life’s and their narratives. I believe people do well when they can. We all have a set of tools that we have gathered throughout our lives; I want to support and encourage my client’s to recognize their strengths and abilities, their independence, and their autonomy to add more tools to their toolbelt to accomplish their goals and pave the wave to growth, change, and healing.

Now for the professional stuff:

I started my college journey in Oakland, CA where I attended Holy Names University. It was a huge culture shock coming from a predominantly white city in southern Oregon and it was overwhelming. I wanted a chance to live in the city, but not as massive as Oakland so I moved to Portland to attend PSU. At that time I was not ready for all the gloom and rain so I transferred to OIT. Well, life happened as it tends to do, and I moved back to Portland to attend Concordia University where I got my BA in psychology. This time around I fell in love with the city. I went on to attend Lewis and Clark and here I am today! I received my MA in professional counseling.

I am a Professional Counselor Associate and I am supervised by Emelie Blank, MA, LPC.
